Somethin for Halloween.

Post by Edera on Sat Oct 30, 2010 11:00 am

Do any of you remember the OLD "Phantom of the Opera" and the Organ in the Cellar scene

Some facts. This is played on a Pipe Organ, The Green line you will see is being played with One or Both Feet. There are 3-6 keyboards and about a dozen preset stops (button that are programed for a quick change in what pipes you hear.) I told my son that he got his Gaming Capabilities from his Grandmother who started playing one of these when she was 14 and didn't stop until her late 70's. It's about 8 minutes and 34 seconds, listen to the whole thing. and watch the dots, each dot is a note. Any Questions ask.

Johann Sebastian Bach was one Awesome musician. Do you think any of today's music will be listened to 400+ years after the death of is composer?

I love Bach. My mother has been an organist all of my life. I'm going to send her over here to check that out.
And yes. There will be some of our music being listened to in 400 years... Stuff like the Beatles, The Stones, hopefully the chili peppers, Ramones, and Elvis. Oh, and in the future they will base an entire religon on the wisdom and philosophy of Lady Gaga that will gradually spread to the furthest corners of the globe. They'll be chanting her lyrics in church... Stuff like "My my my my my my poker face...." and they will build massive shrines of the Most Holy Gaga dressed in some of her classier outfits... notably the fishnet bodystocking with nipple pasties look will be the one most associated with the more conservative arm of the Gagastians.

Thanks Deviant, I guess we can appreciate what goes in to playing that piece. I never heard my mother go completely through it, but she got through the first fugue, and that was more than I could ever do even on a piano.

And thanks for the sarcasm, I love your Humor. It made me smile.

Sister Edera, I have been a bit of a musician my entire life and have a great respect for many artforms. It astounds me that we can still hear music made from the hand of man echoing from the past, especially from hundreds of years ago. The skillful complexity of these pieces are what holds me to them yet how anyone could put togethor such complex pieces is totally uncomprehendable to me. Truly astounding when you really think about it!

Brother Joe

I was raised on Classical music. We always had it on in the house. Until I went to High School I had very little experience with anything else with the exception of the Beatles,( because of Ed Sullivan) and THE WHO, my brothers favorite group. I appreciate anything that is well written, and at least has a melody line. So you can say my taste in music is eclectic, at least.

If you want to think of pure genius, How about Mozart composing his first Symphony at age 5. Now that was something.

My folks have a late 1800's victrola as well. The sound from that beast is borderline spooky!
As for my stranger comments, well I'm off my meds today I guess.

Joe,

I have found on line a turn table that will digitize those old LP's. Thinking of buying one once our finance get turned around. If and when, you can bring them over and we'll put them on CD for you. I have a stack of those like it still in OHIO waiting for me to retrieve.

I'll make a classical day sometime near Christmas. Maybe take over the bar one night. Oh wait, that's another board I belong too. LOL
