Thank you!, it is driving me crazy having only put less than a 100 miles when picking it up last weekend before starting back to work. Yes the color and looks is what made me decide on this one instead of a 2009 RKC. I still will keep the 1972and ride it but really needed a long distance hauler with a little more comfort and maintain interstate speeds. plan on riding it up to Atlanta then Helen Georgia next Thursday for the weekend, if the weather holds will be a nice ride otherwise rain gear included.

Just got back from logging a 1000+ miles on the Road King, what a real treat to ride in the GA & NC mountains and Helen GA this past weekend. Not yet use to a bike I don't drag the floorboards on just yet, but made the trip real enjoyable. Ran great surprised at the avg of 39MPG, but still a great ride. Wife for first time enjoyed the riding also, I will never get her on the shovelhead again were her words.

I'm surprised you didn't get a few more mpg than 39 , unless you were in her pretty hard .. Would think closer to 42-44 mpg ..

Hi Jack, on the interstate I was running between 70 and 80 with maybe 30 pounds of luggage. I checked several fill ups and always come up around the same 39mpg.
The previous owner had a screaming eagle filter installed an some after market pipes/mufflers. Last year during the 20K at Mobile HD he added the super tuner and dyno tested it. nothing to get excited about. I am going to pull the plugs today and look at them and also see if the filter needs replaced, could be something.

I am also new to the twin cam engine, knowing pans, shovels well and enough on EVO to them running well. 2 days before making the trip I took to HD in Pensacola for oil changes(did not take last owners word) and inspection of the cam tensioners. Front tensioner 50% wear rear about 65% and looking brittle. I had the extra from purchase and pulled the plug on the HD upgrade install. Bike ran good whole trip and still running good. maybe it has something to do with the injectors needing cleaner run throught them ?? never had a fuel injected bike.

My ultra only gets about 38-39. Sounds about right to me. Enjoy the RK. That is a sweet bike.
