Yeah, although the websites I do are more programming type.
For instance ordering/supply/inventory database stuff.

Yeah, static websites are really dead solid simple.
Although, to be fair, I am not the best when it comes to designing custom graphics and things of that nature.

My forte is writing code.

What did ya have in mind?

Not at all.

Dragon wrote:How are you about code that would include a store POS system plus an inventory minder? ( being serious now Smile )
Can do.

Essentially what you are both looking at is a shopping cart type system with a payment gateway to paypal/credit card/whatever.
Additionally, Dragon wants an inventory control system as well.

Yes, both are very doable.
In fact, if you would like to attempt it on your own check out "Zen Shopping Cart."

Hell, here is a link: Zen Shopping Cart with Paypal Payment Gateway
Although, I will warn you. Full blown ecommerce websites are not simple to set up. There is a lot involved with it.

Dragon: The inventory management piece that would tie into the point of sale system (The Shopping Cart) would probably have to be custom written in PHP. I'd have to research that a bit. There might be a canned solution.

Let me know. And actually the whole deal I am referring to would be for a physical store, although an online system will also be implemented later as well.

I am talking a motorcycle dealership with a service garage/performance shop bookkeeping/inventory and also to include all the necessary accessories sold to complement both also.

There are existing systems that are available for purchase that can do this.
You would definately come out ahead purchasing one of these systems.
Writing something like this from the ground up would be expensive.

Automotive Repair Shop Software
This looks like it will do what you need.
I haven't tried it or used it, but, it does come with a free demo that you can try.

We programmers have a saying: "Don't reinvent the wheel."

Custom programming is really for stuff that hasn't been done or to customize an existing product to meet your needs.
If there is an existing product that meets your needs, it will almost always be cheaper to purchase it than to hire a programmer to write it from the ground up.

Now, let's say you get that software and it does 95% of what you want it to, but you also want it to do Y and Z. Or you get that software and have no fkin clue what to do with it or how to use it. Or, you have an idea, and no clue how to implement it. That's where I come in. I can recommend tools and set up those tools to do what you want. I can also write code to customize those tools to do what you need them to meet your specific needs.

Alternatively I'll get a request that looks something like:
"I want A, B, C (and d,e,f,g,and z too). I'd like you to set it up and make it happen. Can you do it?"
I'll do some research on some products and find their limitations.
Then I'll inform the customer of what the software packages can and can't do.
They choose one and I come in and set it up for them.
That's software consulting.

That can be done as well.

However, writing an entire small business suite from the ground up?
That would take a lot of time and money.
Believe me, you are better off buying a canned product and getting it customized.
It is much more cost effective.

We'll talk more about what you need as far as software to run a shop if you like.
I'll PM you my cell number.

Hey Deannsei, and I'm going to try to hold the whole thing together. Wish me luck.

We need to talk. I'll be running the store front/dealership part and I HATE to keep inventory, and the daily bookkeeping. I know there is good software and bad sowftware out there that reads bar codes and such. That's where I want some general help being pointed in the right direction. The last one I bought was a POS, and I don't mean Point of Sale.
