Craigslist motorcycle shopping mishap

Post by saltcreep on Fri Feb 17, 2012 2:03 pm

I feel bad for these kids, I guess the hope of a new bike made them forget a bit of common sense...

Another sad fact of life, unfortunately.

As security, I dont place ads as "looking for" that to me places you in a vulnerable spot. And it is far too easy to do searches on any site that will yield the results you want. Many times it annoys me when I read a looking for, as it smacks of pure laziness, do some damn research ffs. And at least anymore, most placed ads have some sort of trail that could be tracked back as many require memberships emails and phone numbers.

Common sense: NEVER meet where the other party suggests if its private and unknown to you; ALWAYS insist on meeting in a highly-traveled, busy public place -- mall, fast food, etc., in daylight, or if it has to be after dark, where at least an acre is well lighted and the meet is in the middle of it.

Come armed if you legally can. If you can't, a big screwdriver is not a "concealed weapon" but can be lethal if lethality is necessary. Even a sharp pencil.

Lock your wallet, checkbook, watch, and valuables in your car, including the cash to make the purchase. If you have a key code on your door (and know it), lock your keys inside.

Bring a big friend. A very big friend, who doesn't look friendly.

If you get a bad vibe, break off and get the heqq out of there.

Craig's list seems to have a lot of trouble following it.

No different than classifieds in the paper. Just use common sense to protect yourself and your assets.
