Keeping fingers crossed

Post by Jack the Bagger on Thu Jan 19, 2012 9:53 pm

I put up a link here a few months ago , of my friend Scott and his solo run to Alaska , he has since put up an 80 minit video , pretty cool one ..
Well my friend here , who is my main long run riding partner was up there at the same time this year as Scott , and Bill also went last year , before he rode with me to Pa .
I had "permission" to go with Bill in '10 , but there was no way I could go .

Scott has decided to go back in June of '13 , with an open invite to anyone else , I still have "permission" to go ..

A few things HAVE to happen betwixt then and now , but I'm going at it as if everything will fall in place ..

Dayum I would love to do that kind of ride, but getting the time off and the money to do so is problematic at best.

yeah I have the same problem .. The time off isnt an issue .. Saving the money , and getting the things done between now and then is the trick ..

Well since the RV is sold , the new scooter is now paid off ( soon as the check clears anyways ) .. Was my only grief buying it , the 08 Roadie was paid off as well ..

Been really thinking about the Alaska thingy and I really want to go back , ( rode up in 70's on my avatar ) but when it comes down to it , I really dont want to use all my vacation at one go , and SWMBO wont be going on the trip ..

So Bill come by today , and I brung up another biggie , more feasible for '13 ..

Here to Petrified Forest just outside Winslow Az , then to the "Standin' on the Corner in Winslow Az " corner , from there to the Four Corners , to Grand Teton NP , to Yellowstone , to Sturgis , to Milwaukee , and back home , mapsource ( Garmin ) has it at 4700 miles , easily be over 5000 , maybe 6000 before its over ..

May throw Garden of the Gods in , it adds a day or so to the trip ..

Sounds like an Iron Butt kind of thing. But a magnificent ride too, though.

I dont do the IB thingy anymore unless "necessary" ..

Nothing to prove anymore , set cruise at 65-67 and run 600-650 a day , and still get mpg's in the high 40's .. This 103 has yet to average an honest 50 mpg .. Usually on cruise if I stay out of the throttle 46-48 mpg .. The '08 with the 96" would hit 50 mpg on cruise at 70 mph ..

We'll see what happens , I usually come up with 3 or 4 ideas and usually one works out ..
